WIEF New Patron Briefed On Foundation Activities And 6th World Islamic Economic Forum in Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur , 27 August 2009 – The World Islamic Economic Forum Foundation welcomed its new Patron, Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Abdul Razak. Prime Minister of Malaysia to its Permanent Secretariat today.
“ WIEF is an international organisation with Malaysian roots and we are most privileged that Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Abdul Razak, will take over the helm as the new Patron, ” said Tun Musa Hitam, Chairman of the WIEF Foundation.
The Prime Minister was taken on a tour of the Secretariat, which was set up in July 2008 and was later briefed on the Foundation activities including the 6th World Islamic Economic Forum which would be held on 18- 20 May 2010 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Abdul Razak, also had a closed session with the WIEF Foundation Management and WIEF corporate members.
The 6th WIEF is expected to see the participation of more than 1500 members of the Muslim and non Muslim business community. Special Addresses would also be delivered by invited Heads of States and Governments. This is the third time that Kuala Lumpur is playing host to the Forum. Previous forums were held in Islamabad, Kuwait and Jakarta. .
Tun Musa Hitam said . “A distinctive feature of the WIEF is the focus given to economic related issues. We believe that focusing on “doing business” at the Forum would be more productive in enhancing the well being and economic prosperity of both Muslims and non Muslims worldwide. ”
Among the issues that will be discussed are Business of Innovation , Tapping Tourism Potentials , Logistics in the Emerging Markets, Accelerating SMEs, Sustainable and Integrated Water Management, Islamic Branding , Islamic Banking and Entrepreneurship.
WIEF signature events, WIEF Businesswomen Forum and The WIEF Young Leaders Forum, will also take place on the eve of the Forum. Other events to be held alongside the 6th World Islamic Economic Forum are the WI EF Corporate Suites and Exhibition and the inaugural WIEF golf tournament for the purposes of one- on- one business matchmaking and networking.
