Kyrgyz Republic offering to host the annual WIEF

The second country from the Central Asian region offering to host the annual WIEF

After a highly successful 7th WIEF in Astana, Kazakhstan, the WIEF Foundation received a high level delegation from the Kyrgyz Republic, headed by H.E. Akhmatbek Keldibekov, Speaker of Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic, together with Ms. AidaToktomatova, Spouse of the Speaker of Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic, H.E. Askar Beshimov, Ambassador-designate of the Kyrgyz Republic to Malaysia, Mr. Zamirbek Alymbekov, Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Committee of Law Enforcement, Legacy and Fight Against Corruption, and Ms. Cholpon Sultanbekova, Member of Parliament, Chairman of the Committee on Youth Policy, Physical Culture and Sports.

The meeting is an official invitation from the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic to convene the annual World Islamic Economic Forum in the country – the second country in Central Asia that has expressed interest to host this global annual Forum. Tun Musa Hitam, speaking as the Chairman of the WIEF Foundation, expressed interest in the offer, and also to engage the Republic in the various activities of the Foundation such as the Women Entrepreneurs Workshop and the WIEF Roundtable.

The Kyrgyz Republic has undergone dramatic political change last year, passing a new constitution that has shifted the seat of power to the parliament. The country is also blessed with an abundance of natural resources such as coal, gold, uranium, antimony and other valuable metals. Another important resource is also water, which enables it to become a substantial player in hydroelectric energy with regional energy supply projects into Pakistan, Afghanistan, China and many other neighbouring countries.
