Kuala Lumpur, 16 October 2015 – The 11th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF), themed “Building Resilience for Equitable Growth”, is set to welcome more than 2,500 delegates representing more than 100 countries from around the world to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 3rd – 5th November 2015.
The 11th WIEF, which aims to further its mission in facilitating economic development towards sustainable and equitable growth between Muslim and non-Muslim economies, has also gained attention with the leading companies from major Islamic economies. Some of these companies, including Maybank Islamic Berhad and Khazanah Nasional Berhad, have come on board to sponsor and play a part in this annual gathering of world leaders, top CEOs, experts, academics, entrepreneurs and businessmen from the global economic arena.
Leading international and local media partners including Bloomberg TV Malaysia, CNBC, The Financial Times, The Economist and Thomson Reuters will be delivering comprehensive business insights and bringing up-to-date news coverage of the interactive and thought-provoking activities held during the three-day event.
The Hon. Tun Musa Hitam, Chairman of the WIEF Foundation, said, “Against the backdrop of a challenging global economy, there are bright sparks in certain economies and industries. The 11th WIEF is bringing to the world’s attention exactly what these opportunities are, with our sponsors and partners shining examples of how to leverage these opportunities.”
“We are thrilled to be collaborating with these recognised organisations for the 11th WIEF. We thank them for their support and commitment in making this year’s Forum a success. Our collaboration is key in reaching out to Muslim and non-Muslim communities around the globe and we hope that our partnership will continue for many years in the future,” Tun Musa Hitam added.
This year’s Forum will see Maybank Islamic Berhad, the largest Islamic banking player in the Asia Pacific region and Khazanah Nasional Berhad, the Malaysian Government’s strategic investment fund as the Strategic Partners.
The Forum’s Gold Sponsors are UEM Group Berhad, an established infrastructure and services group that has been realising Malaysia and other countries’ infrastructure vision, and the Islamic Development Bank, an international financial institution that fosters the economic development of Muslim communities.
Silver Sponsors for the 11th WIEF include the Qatar Financial Centre Authority, which encourages the growth of a world-class financial services sector in Qatar and the wider region; My E. G. Services Berhad which builds, operates and owns the electronic channel to deliver best-in-class services from Government agencies to Malaysians; United Malayan Land Bhd (UMLand), an established property developer in Malaysia that creates innovative and quality lifestyles and communities; and the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF), the only university in the world dedicated to Islamic finance.
The 11th WIEF will also focus on the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). SME Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp. Malaysia) is participating in this year’s Forum as its SME Partner, in line with the agency’s efforts to formulate strategies to implement SME Development Programmes all across Malaysia.
The Finance Accreditation Agency (FAA), which aims to develop highly skilled and internationally mobile professionals for the global financial services industry, has joined as the Forum’s Finance Accreditation Partner while Ernst & Young, the most globally integrated professional services organisation committed to creating a better working world, will also be a Partner at the 11th WIEF.
Sime Darby Auto Bavaria Sdn. Bhd., the biggest retail and service organisation for BMW, MINI and Motorrad in Malaysia, as the Official Car Sponsor for this year’s Forum, will be providing delegates with a seamless passenger experience during their stay in the nation’s capital.
The 11th WIEF will take place back in Kuala Lumpur as Southeast Asia prepares for the regional integration opportunities that the upcoming ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) promises. The AEC offers business opportunities with the creation of a free market that will allow a free flow of goods, services, investment and skilled labour across ASEAN, leading to a highly competitive and equitable regional economy. The establishment of the AEC is in tandem with the goals of WIEF as it continues to promote Islamic finance as an economic model that encourages sustainable development, bringing stability and prosperity to global economy.
The three-day Forum will bring a full day of stimulating discussions, plenary sessions, one-to-one meetings and networking opportunities, and will cover cutting-edge topics in the Muslim world including Islamic finance, halal industries, green technologies, education, sustainable living and development, women and youth development, and the Creative Arts.
The World Islamic Economic Forum is the largest international gathering of heads of government, economic experts and stakeholders to share experiences and knowledge about Islamic economy since its launch in 2004.
