Workshop puts women entrepreneurs on better footing

Participants of the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) Social Media Workshop for Women Entrepreneurs were on Thursday awarded certificates during a closing ceremony at the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences (PAPRSB IHS), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD).

UBD Acting Vice Chancellor Associate Professor Dr Mohammad Ayub Sadiq @ Lin Naing attended as the guest of honour.

The two-day workshop, attended by participants from Southeast Asia, was jointly organised by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), and the School of Business and Economics (SBE) and the World Islamic Economic Forum Foundation’s Businesswomen Network on April 25 – 26.

The workshop looks to help businesswomen establish their brands and online presence by setting up and maintaining active websites and social media accounts.

Thirty women entrepreneurs who own micro, small and medium-sized businesses, learnt to use social media applications as a viable platform to market their products and services globally.

Participants were briefed on the potentials and gains of social media business market research, strategies and planning, and were given hands-on training in using various social media apps, such as YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook to expand their businesses.
