Regenerative medicine is concerned with the development of new therapeutic approaches to prevent or treat a variety of diseases, and often involves manipulating fundamental biological processes for therapeutic e­ffect such as stimulating the human body’s capacity to heal. The session will provide an overview of cell biology and regenerative medicine and also explore possible areas for investment, as well as commercial opportunities and collaborative efforts.

The global halal market is estimated to be worth more than US$2.3 trillion and the value of halal food sector is about US$700 billion annually. The non-food sector is much bigger, and includes chemicals, healthcare, cosmetics, personal care, pharmaceuticals, banking and finance, logistics, warehousing and distribution. The session will explore the concept of halal products as an alternative benchmark for safety, hygiene and quality assurance assessing the past and current situation of halal business in Japan, and how its development can potentially a­ffect growing sectors such as tourism and education in the country while exploring possible areas for cross border trade and investment opportunities as well as collaborative e­fforts in the halal sector.

Over the last few years, Japan has become more actively involved in this industry by introducing several new mechanisms to advance the growth of Islamic banking and ‑nance in the country. The session will explore the proposal to make more sel­ective use of Islamic finance for the social infrastructural development in the developing countries for the global economic growth, discussing on Japan’s economic landscape to help promote Islamic banking and finance activities as well as the importance to build on regulatory e­fforts to pursue investment ows and identifying what are the necessary infrastructure to develop Islamic banking products to the domestic market.
